Jared Alan Cook (* 7. April 1987 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American American football poker players. He plays the position of tight end in the National Football League (NFL). He began his professional career with the Tennessee Titans and is currently under contract with the New Orleans Saints .

college

Cook played three years at the University of South Carolina as a passport holder. While he was still used as a wide receiver in his first year at college (2006) , he played the last two years as a tight end , which he later played in the NFL . With the change in position, Cook got more playing time at South Carolina. In 2007 he caught 30 passes for 421 yards and 3 touchdowns . In his last year at college (2008) he was able to improve these values again slightly, he caught 37 passes for 573 yards and again scored 3 touchdowns for his team.

NFL

Tennessee Titans

Cook was from the Tennessee Titans in the NFL Draft in 2009 selected in the third round to 89th place. The Titans won the right to the 89th pick of the draft through a trade with the New England Patriots , who in return received the Titans' second round pick from 2010. Only Brandon Pettigrew and Richard Quinn were on the tight end position in 2009 Cook selected. Cook signed with the Titans a rookie contract over 4 years and was this a salary of 2.545 million US dollars .

In his 2009 rookie season , Cook was only used sporadically, so that at the end of the season he was only able to record 9 pass catches and scored less than 100 yards. In 2010 , Cook's role in the Titans expanded. He caught 29 passes for 361 yards and scored his first touchdown in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs in week 16. Cook made his breakthrough in his third year in the NFL ( 2011 ). He scored 759 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Titans with 49 balls caught. Cook scored 169 yards in defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16, setting a new franchise record. Never before had a Titans tight end caught more yards in a game. Despite a positive balance of 9: 7, Cook missed the play-offs with the Titans for the third time in a row .

In his last year of contract with the Titans ( 2012 ) Cook could catch 44 passes for 523 yards and 4 touchdowns in 13 games. The last three games of the season he missed due to injury, he was withdrawn at week 14 in the game against the Colts , the rotator cuff . After four years with the Titans, his contract expired and Cook became a free agent for the first time .

St. Louis Rams

In the Free Agency 2013 Cook was in great demand, among other things the Miami Dolphins were very interested in his services. Ultimately, he signed a five-year contract for $ 35.1 million with the St. Louis Rams , of which $ 16 million was guaranteed. Thus Cook joined the Rams to head coach Jeff Fisher , who drafted the Titans Cook as head coach in 2009. His first season with the Rams ( 2013 ) was his individually most successful year with them. Cook was able to score 5 touchdowns and 671 yards for the Rams with 51 pass catches. This was not only his first season, but also his first game with the Rams his most successful. In week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals , he scored 141 yards for his team, making a very successful debut. Cook also set a new record for the Rams with 141 yards, never before has a Rams tight end achieved more yards in a game. In the 2014 season , Cook was able to deliver comparable values for the team from St. Louis . He caught 52 balls for 634 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. In 2015 , Cook fell short of his expectations and was only able to gain 481 yards of space. He also didn't score a single touchdown for the first time since his 2009 rookie season. Therefore, it was not entirely surprising that the Rams fired Cook after three years in order to save money for the squad planning.

Green Bay Packers

In 2016, Cook joined the Green Bay Packers for a year and for a comparatively low salary of over $ 2.75 million . After Cook did not miss a single game in his three years with the Rams, he struggled with injuries several times with the Packers. Due to a broken foot, Cook missed all offseason training sessions, but at the start of the 2016 season he was ready and was often used by McCarthy as the fourth wide receiver. However, Cook injured himself again after three games, he sprained his ankle . As a result of this injury, Cook missed six games. In the remaining seven games of the regular season, Cook was able to play again for the Packers, he ended the season with 30 passes for 377 yards and a touchdown. In contrast to the regular season, Cook played an important role for the Packers in the first play-offs of his career. In just three games he was able to catch 18 passes and scored 229 yards and 2 touchdowns for his team. With the Packers he narrowly missed the Super Bowl LI , but in the NFC Conference Final they were clearly defeated by the Atlanta Falcons , and Cook's touchdown was just cosmetic results.

Oakland Raiders

Cook was unable to agree on a new contract with the Packers, so instead he signed a two-year contract for $ 10.6 million with the Oakland Raiders . In his three previous positions, Cook had the jersey number 89, in the Raiders, however, this number was already assigned to Amari Cooper . That's why Cook got the jersey number 87, which in the history of the Raiders was worn by Dave Casper , among others . In the 2017 season, Cook played as a starter for the Raiders in all 16 regular season games. Here he was able to catch 54 passes from Derek Carr and scored 688 yards and 2 touchdowns. The following year Cook played again in all 16 games of the season for the Raiders.

Cook started the 2018 season with a spectacular new team record, scoring 180 yards in the first week's game against the Rams, more yards than any Raiders tight end before. The previous record holder was Todd Christensen with 173 yards from 1986. So Cook is the record holder in this category with three teams, the Raiders, the Rams and the Titans. In the 2018 season, which was his 10th professional season in the NFL, Cook achieved personal bests in many categories. Cook caught more balls than ever in his career with 68 passes. On the one hand, this was due to the fact that never before had so many passports been thrown at him, on the other hand, Cook also achieved a personal best with 67.3% of passports caught. He also set a new personal record with 896 yards and 6 touchdowns. With these values he was also the best receiver of his team in 2018, for comparison: Jordy Nelson came second best with 739 yards and 3 touchdowns. With the 896 yards Cook also achieved the most yards of a tight end in the history of the Raiders since 1986. For his achievements, he was ultimately nominated for the Pro Bowl 2019 , as Travis Kelce could not participate in this. Despite a very strong individual season, the season was again unsuccessful for his team, they could only win 4 of the 16 season games. This missed the play-offs under the new coach Jon Gruden more than clearly, so that the 2016 season with the Packers remained the only play-offs season for Cook. After the season, Cook's contract with the Raiders expired and was not extended by them.

New Orleans Saints

Cook signed a two-year deal worth $ 15.5 million with the New Orleans Saints during Free Agency 2019. For the Saints, Cook continued to play with shirt number 87, which he has been wearing since his stay with the Raiders. Cook didn't get into the 2019 season very well , so he couldn't score a touchdown for the Saints after the first four games and was still under 100 yards of space. His first touchdown for the Saints was against the Buccaneers in week 5 . He was able to score a touchdown for his team in week 6 as well, but after that he had to pause for two weeks due to injury. After his comeback in week 10 of the 2019 season, Cook improved significantly and was finally able to finish the season with 705 yards of space gain, only Michael Thomas was able to gain more space (1,725 yards) at the Saints 2019 through trapped passes. With 9 touchdowns, Cook was able to clearly surpass his personal best of 6 touchdowns from the previous year with the Raiders and, like Thomas, who also caught 9 touchdowns, scored the most touchdowns by catching a pass for the Saints in the regular season 2019. Due to his individual Achievements Cook played for the second time in his career in the Pro Bowl. As in the previous year, he was also nominated for the Pro Bowl 2020 and replaced Zach Ertz of the Philadelphia Eagles , who was unable to participate in the Pro Bowl due to injury. Cook was not only in the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career in the 2019 season, but was also able to reach the NFL play-offs for the second time. Here he lost to the Minnesota Vikings with the Saints in the first round of the play-offs.
