Otto Budde

Otto Carl Ernst Budde (born June 15, 1848 in Bensberg ; † December 14, 1909 in Essen ) was a German mechanical engineer and industrial manager . Together with his brother Karl Budde, he presented the Folkwang Museum with a collection.

Life

Otto Budde studied mechanical engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and then completed an internship . From 1873 he worked at Krupp . In 1885, Krupp brought out a work written by Otto Budde about the penetration of armor plates . Budde finally belonged to the Krupp board of directors and, after having been assistant to the head of department from 1888, headed the affairs of cannon department I and part of cannon department II, and in 1908 he resigned from the board.

From 1876 to 1878 Budde was also the chairman of the management of the Association for Monitoring Steam Boilers in the Elberfeld and Barmen districts , the forerunner of today's TÜV Rheinland . He had the office of Gustav Schlieper jun. who founded the association in 1872.

In 1907 the library of the Folkwang Museum received an extensive donation from the brothers Otto and Karl Budde. This also included the Ludwig Richter Library, which is now set up separately and comprises around 750 volumes. Another brother of Otto Budde was Hermann von Budde .

Budde has received several awards for his work. In 1906 he was awarded the Prussian Order of the Crown II. Class and the following year the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle III. Awarded class with a ribbon. He also wore the Order of Frederick , the Bulgarian Order of St. Alexander II. Class, the Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau III. Class, the Swedish Vasa Order II. Class and others.

His burial took place in the cemetery at Kettwiger Tor . After its closure in 1955, the grave was reburied in Essen's Ostfriedhof .
