Michael Joseph "Mike" Scarry (* 1. February 1920 in Duquesne , Pennsylvania ; † 9 September 2012 in Fort Myers , Florida ) Nickname : " Mo " was a US American football players and coaches. He played as center , offensive tackle and defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cleveland Rams and in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) with the Cleveland Browns .

Mike Scarry attended high school in his hometown , where he played American football and basketball . Scarry graduated from Waynesburg University . In the football team of his college , he played as a center and as a linebacker . After graduating, he joined the US Army and finished his service as a lieutenant . In 1944 he was signed up by the Cleveland Rams. In 1945 the Rams succeeded in engaging Bob Waterfield , who later became a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame . Waterfield played as quarterback and Scarry had as center and offensive tackle the task of protecting Waterfield from the opposing defense . With the Rams, Scarry won the NFL championship that same year . The Rams met the Washington Redskins in the final and were able to defeat them with 15:14.

In 1946 Scarry moved to the Cleveland Browns, who were based in the newly formed AAFC. The team was coached by Paul Brown , who used Scarry on the offensive line to protect quarterback Otto Graham . In addition, he had the task of running back Marion Motley to block the way into the opposing end zone . The Browns were the dominant team in the league, Brown managed to lead the team in 1946 in the AAFC final . The Browns won the game against the New York Yankees 14: 9. In 1947 Scarry won his third league title with the Browns. Again the Yankees were the opponent. This time they had to admit defeat 14: 3. After the 1947 season, Scarry ended his playing career.

Immediately after his playing career, Scarry became a football coach. By 1968 he coached various college teams, including the teams from the University of Cincinnati and Santa Clara University . From 1963 to 1965 he returned to his old alma mater, where he also took on the post of sports director and basketball coach. From 1966 to 1968 he was an assistant coach with the Washington Redskins before he worked as a scout for the San Francisco 49ers , Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Rams in 1969 . In 1970 he became Don Shula's assistant coach with the Miami Dolphins . There he was responsible for looking after the defensive line . With the Dolphins, he won the American Football Conference five times and the Super Bowl twice . He won the first AFC championship in 1971 with a 21-0 win for his team against the Baltimore Colts ( Super Bowl VI was lost to the Cowboys 24-3). The following year, the Dolphins were again in the AFC final and defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers there with 21:17. The subsequent Super Bowl VI was then won by Scarry's team 14: 7 against the Washington Redskins. In the following season, the Dolphins were able to defend their Super Bowl title. In the AFC final, the Oakland Raiders were first defeated 27:10, followed by a 24: 7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl VII .

In 1982 Scarry won his fourth title with a 14-0 win for the Dolphins against the New York Jets ( Super Bowl XVII was lost to the Redskins 27:17) and finally his fifth in 1984 with a 45:28 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers and last championship title. (Loss to the 49ers 38:16 in Super Bowl XIX ). In 1986, Scarry retired.

Mike Scarry died at the age of 92 in Fort Myers, where he had lived with his wife Libby since 1994. Scarry had four sons and a daughter. In Fort Myers he found his final resting place in the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens .
