Adrian Cruft

Adrian Francis Cruft (born February 10, 1921 in Mitcham , Surrey , † February 20, 1987 in London ) was a British composer and music teacher.

He grew up musically at Westminster Abbey Choir School and later at Westminster School . He studied composition with Gordon Jacob and conducting with William Henry Reed and Reginald Goodall and double bass at the Royal College of Music in London from 1938 to 1940, then interrupted by the Second World War and from 1946 to 1947 with Edmund Rubbra he continued his Studies continued.

From 1947 to 1969 he played in all known orchestras in London . From 1962 he was Professor of Music Theory and Composition at the Royal College of Music and from 1972 to 1975 he lectured instrumentation at the Guildhall School of Music . He was a long-time member of the Executive Committee of the Composers' Guild and was a co-founder of The British Music Information Center .

Cruft's oeuvre is very broad.
