Franz Seraph Bedall

Franz Seraph Bedall (born February 10, 1781 in Sulzbach in the Upper Palatinate , † August 6, 1851 in Munich ) was a Bavarian major general .

Life

Franz Seraph Bedall was born as the son of the district judge Johann Michael Bedall.

On July 20, 1800, he joined the infantry body regiment of the Bavarian Army in Amberg as a simple soldier . Shortly afterwards he was promoted to NCO and on October 4, 1800 to Junker in the 2nd Infantry Regiment "Crown Prince" . Subsequently, Bedall advanced to lieutenant and staff officer .

He took part in the campaigns of 1800 , 1805 , 1807 , 1809 , 1812 , 1813, 1814 and 1815 and was wounded several times. He was involved in the battles near Hallein in 1809 , when the Salzburg freedom fighters under rifle captain Josef Struber successfully opposed the French-Bavarian troops, as well as in the Battle of Polotsk in 1812 and in the Battle of Bar-sur-Aube in 1814 . For his work during the War of Liberation, he was awarded the veteran memorial and the military memorial for 1813/1815 .

In 1838 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1839 was given command of the 4th Jäger Battalion in Straubing . In 1841 he was promoted to Colonel and Commander of the 10th Infantry Regiment "Albert Pappenheim" in Amberg and was awarded the Cross of Honor of the Order of Ludwig a year later .

On March 31, 1848 he was promoted to major general and appointed director of the army clothing depot in Munich. In this position Bedall received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of St. Michael on July 20, 1850 .
