August Söderman
Johan August Söderman (* 17th July 1832 in Stockholm ; † 10. February 1876 ) was a Swedish composer of the Romantic and conductor at the Opera in Stockholm.
Söderman became Kapellmeister of the Mindre Theater in Stockholm in 1854 and was a student at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1856 to 1857 . In 1860 he was choirmaster and in 1862 Kapellmeister of the Royal Opera in Stockholm. In addition to theater music and church chants, he composed especially smaller vocal works of national color, which made him popular. His rich musical legacy includes the ballads Tannhäuser , The Black Knight , The Pilgrimage to Kevlaar , Qvarnruinen (all for solo voice with orchestral accompaniment), the operetta Hin Ondes lärospån , an overture to the Maid of Orléans , the music for Bröllopet på Ulfåsa and one Series of male choirs and songs.
