Baikida Carroll

Baikida Carroll (born January 15, 1947 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American jazz trumpeter and composer .

Carroll played a role in the Black Artists Group and the Human Arts Ensemble in St. Louis in the 1970s and during this time worked with Muhal Richard Abrams , Oliver Lake , Julius Hemphill and other musicians from this community and recorded some records under his own name . In the 1990s he worked with Sam Rivers , Pheeroan akLaff , Hemphill, in 2004 he was part of John Lindberg's quartet on the album Winter Birds .

In addition to his appearances as a jazz trumpeter, Carroll has written numerous film and theater music and has appeared with Albert King , Jay McShann , Amiri Baraka , Patti LaBelle , Little Milton , Charlie Haden and Dr. John and on stage.

Baikida Carroll is the son of saxophonist Jimmy Harris.
