Charles Papasoff

Charles Papasoff (* 1956 in Montreal ) is a Canadian jazz musician, film composer , film director , actor , arranger and music producer .

Live and act

Papasoff, child of Bulgarian and Swiss parents, worked as a baritone saxophonist with Matt Herskowitz , Donny McCaslin and the Montreal quintet The Sociopaths . In 1982 he first appeared at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal . For the avant-garde label Red Toucan he recorded his debut album in 1993 with Baikida Carroll , Santi Debriano and Pheeroan AkLaff . In 1995 he hired a number of baritone saxophonists for a concert at the Victoriaville Festival , including Hamiet Bluiett , Jean Derome , David Mott and Bo Van Der Werf . In 1996 he composed music for Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal for Tristan and Iseult ; In 1998, the Catharsis multimedia project followed . As a producer he worked for the singers Coral Egan and Bïa, for the latter also as an arranger ( Nocturno , 2008).

With his formation Papasoff Qtet , for which he wrote compositions, he recorded a number of film scores, such as Le fugitif ou les vérités d'Hassan (directed by Jean-Daniel Lafond , 2006) and La lune viendra d'elle-même by Marie Jan Seille. As a film director he worked with Dawn Tyler Watson and Paul Deslauriers ( ... en duo , 2009) and the singer Coral Egan ( My Favorite Distraction , 2004). Comme arranger, on le retrouve sur et l'album éponyme de Geneviève Toupin (2009). From the mid-1990s he also worked as an actor; he had a leading role in Franck Blaess ' feature film In Cold Love (2009).
