Yara Sayeh Shahidi (born February 10, 2000 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an Iranian-American actress .

life and career

Yara Shahidi was born in February 2000 in the most populous city in the US state of Minnesota to an Iranian father and an African-American mother. Her younger brother Sayeed Shahidi is also an actor. Because of her father's work, she and her family moved to Los Angeles , California when she was four years old . From the age of six weeks she was seen in commercials together with her mother , later also with her younger brother, in campaigns for Disney , McDonald’s , Target and Gap Inc.

She made her acting debut in the comedy The Magic of Home at Eddie Murphy's side as his film daughter. Also in 2009, she was in the short-lived ABC - comedy series In the Motherhood , the daughter of one of the main characters, as well as two guest roles in the series Cold Case - no victim is ever forgotten and Wizards of Waverly Place to see. The Young Artist Awards 2010 Shahidi was finally for her role in Home is the magic going as best actress in a feature film nominated this lost but ultimately to Abigail Breslin . From 2012 to 2013 she starred as Chloe Johnson in the comedy series The First Family , which was distributed via syndication .

After brief supporting roles in Scandal (2013) and The Fosters (2014), Shahidi was cast for a leading role on the ABC sitcom Black-ish , which premiered on September 24, 2014. In the series, she takes on the role of Zoey Johnson , the daughter of Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson .
