Carrie-Anne Moss (born August 21, 1967 in Burnaby , British Columbia ) is a Canadian actress , film producer and former model . She first became known to a worldwide audience through the female lead in the film Matrix .

life and career

After high school , Carrie-Anne Moss moved to Europe when she was 20 years old . In 1991 Moss got a role in the American - Spanish television series The Conspirators . After filming in Los Angeles , she decided to stay there. There she played in several films and plays (for example Outward Bound at the Hudson Theater). She also studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena , California . At the side of Nick Mancuso Moss played the recurring role of Liz Teel in the crime series Matrix from 1993. This was followed by roles in television series such as LA Law , Baywatch , Models Inc. and Viper . For her guest role as Irene Zuko in A Mountie in Chicago , Moss was nominated for the 1997 Gemini Award .

Moss auditioned with the Wachowski siblings for the role of Trinity in the 1999 action film Matrix . Although she had never shot in the action genre before, she was hired for her karate skills . For the film, she completed months of kung fu training in Hong Kong with Keanu Reeves , Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving . The success of Matrix, including the two sequels in which she also played the leading female role, made her a sought-after actress. This was followed by leading and supporting roles in films such as Memento , Red Planet , Suspect Zero and Snow Cake .

In 1999 Moss married her fellow actor Steven Roy , with whom she has two sons (* 2003, * 2005) and a daughter (* 2009).
