Fido is a 2006 Canadian black zombie comedy directed by Andrew Currie and starring Carrie-Anne Moss and Dylan Baker .
action
In an American, colorful 1950s idyll under a latent threat: Zombies had attacked humanity and a war broke out. After ZomCon invented an electronic collar for taming (with frequent loose contacts ), they became cheap, domesticated, and somewhat cumbersome workers. So the zombies no longer follow their instinct - the greed for human flesh. It is only safe in the cities. Alarm buttons are installed in many places in public spaces, and seniors are viewed critically. ZomCon teaches safety and hygiene in schools, the Christian burial rite is adapted to the new situation ( head coffins ). The walking undead have become a kind of status symbol , a symbol of bourgeoisie and thus everyone wants one. So the Robinsons family also gets a " zombie slave ".
The philistine Mr. Robinson is traumatized and zombie phobic because he fought in the zombie wars and had to kill his own father - but mostly in a good mood. Timmy, the smart, critical son of the Robinsons, quickly builds a friendship with the zombie he calls Fido . In the family, some things seem to be wrong. One evening Fido's collar falls out and he eats an elderly neighbor. This triggers a chain reaction until a battle occurs in the city center. When two rascals attack and tie up Timmy, Fido is able to save his life by stopping them because his collar has been deactivated. He saves Timmy and gets help. Timmy's mother Helen burns the two undead classmates for containment reasons . Prisoner transporters from the ZomCon concern are constantly patrolling the streets of the small town. Fido, who was a smoker in his first life and died of a heart attack, surprisingly remains sufficiently “good” even without a collar. He is the same size as Bill. Bill becomes increasingly jealous of Fido and tries to get him deported. Bill stubbornly refuses to notice his wife's pregnancy, which is becoming increasingly bulky.
After it is discovered that Fido has eaten the neighbor, he is taken to a ZomCon factory. Timmy frees him with the help of the neighbor, a former employee of the company who is socially excluded because of racial disgrace. During the rescue operation from the colony, Timmy's father Bill is shot dead by Jonathan Bottoms, neighbor and security chief of ZomCon. His father found the courage to go after the war veteran Bottoms. Timmy then deactivates Fido's collar and the latter kills Jonathan and the city briefly spins out of control as several zombies from outside can penetrate the closed residential complex of the city.
Bottoms comes back to his family relatively fresh on a leash, Fido is making progress with baseball and is allowed to smoke. The child is born alive, so it was probably from Bill. At the end the original condition with humans and zombie slaves is restored and everyone coexists peacefully and is happy.

Reviews
“An attempt at a horror comedy, the blood toll of which is limited and whose candy-colored decorations turn out to be quite amusing. The plot is supposed to be driven by an all too keen wit, which above all causes an aversion to the subgenre. "
“The great thing about Currie's film is that his dystopia looks like the American paradise on earth. Using the dreamlike decorations and costumes he succeeds perfectly in teasing out the mendacity of the ideal world "
