Hans Steiger (* 1518 in Bern ; † February 10, 1581 there ) was mayor of Bern .

Life

Hans Steiger was born as the son of Bartlome Steiger. From 1538 he sat in the Bernese Grand Council, was from 1539 to 1544 Landvogt von Nyon , from 1545 member of the Small Council, 1546 to 1547 Landvogt von Nidau , 1547 to 1548 Venner zu Gerwern, 1548 to 1562 Welschseckelmeister and from 1562 mayor of Bern. Steiger was often entrusted with embassies, u. a. 1564 to Nyon regarding the return of the bailiffs of Gex , Thonon and Ternier by Bern to Savoy . He owned the Freiherrschaft Rolle , the lordships of Mont-le-Grand , Mont-le-Vieux, Bière , Begnins , Sépey, Rosey, Mollens , briefly Oron and Palézieux . He was co-lord and later sole owner of the Münsingen estate .
