history

The village was the center of the Vaudois dominion of Mont-le-Grand , which was particularly important in the 11th and 12th centuries and which stretched from Lake Geneva to the foot of the Jura near Mollens . From 1265 the rule was under the suzerainty of the Savoyers . In order to limit the power of the lords of Mont-le-Grand, the Savoyers founded the town of Rolle on the lake shore. The castle was on a hill near Mont-Dessus. Already in 1379 it was only a partially inhabited ruin and in 1476 it was finally devastated by the Confederates . The later owners of the Mont dominion had their residence in the Château de Mont.

With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Mont-sur-Rolle came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Morges . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Rolle district.
