Vich is a municipality in the Nyon district in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Vich is 456 m above sea level. M. , 5 km north of the district capital Nyon (linear distance). The village extends at the southern foot of the Jura , east of the Serine river , in the far west of the Vaudois Côte.
The area of the municipality area of just 1.6 km² includes a section at the foot of the Jura. The elongated but very narrow area extends from the confluence of the Serine into the Promenthouse northwards along the Serine valley over the settlement area of Vich to the edge of the Bois de Chênes nature reserve . Above this forest area is on the lower southern Jura slope at 580 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Vich. In 1997, 24% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 26% for forests and woodlands and 50% for agriculture.
Vich has a number of individual farms. Neighboring municipalities to Vich are Gland , Begnins , Bassins , Arzier-Le Muids , Genolier , Coinsins and Prangins .

With 1,036 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Vich is one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 78.2% of the residents are French-speaking, 8.2% English-speaking and 5.9% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Vich was 301 in 1900. After 1980 (326 inhabitants) a rapid increase in population began, with the number of inhabitants doubling within 20 years.
economy
Until the second half of the 20th century, Vich was a village mainly characterized by agriculture . Today agriculture only plays a subordinate role as a source of income, it concentrates on viticulture and agriculture . Further jobs are available in the commercial and service sectors. Numerous commercial and industrial companies have set up shop near the motorway. In the last few decades the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work mainly in Nyon and Geneva .
traffic
The community has excellent transport connections. It is located on the main road from Gland to Saint-Cergue . The Gland motorway junction on the A1 (Geneva-Lausanne), which crosses the municipality, is only around 1 km from the town center. Vich is connected to the public transport network by the Postbus lines that run from Nyon to Gimel and from Gland to Burtigny . From 1906 to 1954 the overland tram Gland – Begnins (GB) ran through Vich .
history
The municipality of Vich was already very busy during Roman times . A Roman milestone and a bronze statue of Mercury were found. The first written mention of the place took place in 1164 under the name Vizo . The place name is derived from the Latin word vicus ( small village , homestead ). Since the Middle Ages, the church of Vich has been under the Cistercian Abbey of Bonmont , but the village itself belonged to the Prangins rule .
With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Vich came under the administration of the Nyon Bailiwick . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Nyon district.
Attractions
The current Reformed Church of Saint-Martin was built in the 12th century , parts of the structure date back to this time. In the old town center, some typical wine-growing houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
