The first written mention of the place took place in 1477 under the name Cabane de Bogiez . The place name is derived from the vulgar Latin capanna ( hut , small courtyard ). Chavannes-de-Bogis was subordinate to the bailiff of La Rippe , who collected tithes and taxes for the Bonmont Abbey. The abbey and the Lords of Gex had jurisdiction over the village .
With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Chavannes-de-Bogis came under the administration of the Nyon Bailiwick and in 1711 under the Bonmont Bailiwick. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Chavannes-de-Bogis belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force .
