Arnex-sur-Nyon is a municipality in the Nyon district in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Arnex-sur-Nyon is about 2 km as the crow flies from the French border at 454 m above sea level. M. , 3.5 km west of the district capital Nyon (air line). The village extends south of the Boiron de Nyon river in the plain between Lake Geneva and the Jura .
The area of the municipal area of just 2.0 km² includes a section of the plain at the foot of the Jura. In the north, the Boiron flows in a valley through the municipality. To the south-west of the municipality reaches into the forest of Maillefer , in which with 473 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Arnex-sur-Nyon is reached. In 1997, 10% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 14% for forests and woodlands and 76% for agriculture.
Arnex-sur-Nyon has a number of individual farms. The neighboring municipalities of Arnex-sur-Nyon are Crans-près-Céligny , Eysins , Borex and Crassier .

With 235 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Arnex-sur-Nyon is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the residents, 61.8% are French-speaking, 29.4% English-speaking and 1.5% Spanish-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Arnex-sur-Nyon was 100 in 1850 and 79 in 1900. After only 62 inhabitants were counted in 1980, the population began to increase with a doubling of the number of inhabitants within 20 years. The place has not grown significantly since the Middle Ages .
economy
Arnex-sur-Nyon was a mainly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Today, thanks to the fertile soil, agriculture is concentrated on arable farming , and viticulture is practiced on a slope south of the village . Further jobs are available in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work mainly in Nyon and Geneva .
traffic
Although the community is located off the main thoroughfares, it is still well developed. The main access is from Nyon . The Nyon motorway junction on the A1 (Geneva-Lausanne), which runs past the village, is around 4 km from the town center. Arnex-sur-Nyon is connected to the public transport network via the Postbus course, which runs from Nyon to Coppet .
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1154 under the name Arnai , later the spelling Arnay appeared . The place name probably goes back to the Latin personal name Arnius . From the first mention until the beginning of the 14th century, the village belonged to the nobles of Arnex, who were probably vassals of the Lords of Prangins . The Cistercian Abbey of Bonmont and the Lords of Gingins also owned land in Arnex-sur-Nyon. In 1293 Arnex-sur-Nyon came to the House of Savoy . From 1432 the place was subordinate to the Ripaille Priory .
With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Arnex-sur-Nyon came under the administration of the Nyon Bailiwick . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Nyon district. Arnex-sur-Nyon does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Crassier .
