Vinzel is a municipality in the Nyon district in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Vinzel lies at 455 m above sea level. M. , 8 km north-northeast of the district capital Nyon (air line). The wine-growing village extends slightly higher on the lower southern slope of the Vaudois Côte in the middle of the vineyards, in a panoramic position around 80 m above lake level of Lake Geneva .
The area of the municipality, which is just 1.1 km² in size, covers a section in the western part of the Vaudois Côte. The community soil extends from the plateau at the foot of the slope in a narrow strip northwards over the vineyard slope and the subsequent forest-covered steep slope to the plateau near Burtigny. Here at 735 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Vinzel. In 1997, 12% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 19% for forests and woodlands and 69% for agriculture.
The hamlet of La Tuilière ( 442 m above sea level ) at the foot of the Côte and some wineries belong to Vinzel . The neighboring communities of Vinzel are in southern and western Luins , in the north Burtigny and west Bursins .
population
With 358 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Vinzel is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 81.7% of the residents are French-speaking, 6.8% German-speaking and 5.1% English-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Vinzel was 155 in 1900. After the population had decreased to 104 in 1960, the population began to increase rapidly, almost tripling the number of inhabitants within 40 years.
economy
Until the middle of the 20th century, Vinzel was a village dominated by agriculture . Agriculture still plays an important role as a livelihood for the population. On the entire slope of the Côte below an altitude of 550 to 600 m above sea level. M. is operated viticulture . Arable farming predominates on the plateau at the foot of the slope . Until 1956 there was a brick factory in Vinzel . Further jobs are available in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has developed into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many employees work abroad and sometimes commute to the cities of Lausanne and Geneva .
traffic
The community has good transport connections. It is on the main road that leads from Nyon along the slopes of the Côte to Aubonne . Vinzel is connected to the public transport network through the Postbus course, which runs from Rolle to Gland .
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1145 under the name Vyncgel . Since the Middle Ages, Vinzel has been under the rule of Aubonne. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Morges . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Vinzel belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Rolle district.
Attractions
There are two castles above Vinzel: the feudal manor La Bâtie from the 18th century, which was for a time the residence of Carl Jacob Burckhardt , and the smaller Château de Vinzel from the 16th century. In the old town center, some characteristic wine-growing houses from the 16th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
