post Office

Post office around 1965

From 1862, the postal service in Crans is guaranteed by a delivery person who commutes between the village and the Céligny post office . However, the residents of Cran had to wait until 1891 for a post office to be set up in their village. In addition to his job as a baker, Gottfried Häuselmann is employed as a depot deliverer and postman. The depot is in that location until voices are heard calling for the position to be reassessed. In 1930 it was converted into an invoice post office. Three years later, the new post holder relocated the post office to the town center, opposite the Hôtel du Cerf. In 1935 the post office was renamed "Crans-près-Céligny". In the following 30 years, the postal traffic increased continuously. In 1965 the post office was relocated again to a nearby building. In 1991 the post office moves into a new development on the “Grand Pré”, and at the beginning of 2016 the branch is converted into an agency.

The discovery of a needle from the Bronze Age , traces from the Roman era and early medieval graves indicate an early settlement of the municipality. The first written mention of the place took place in 1008 under the name Cranos , which is probably derived from the Burgundian personal name Grado . Crans-près-Céligny had been in the possession of the Lausanne cathedral chapter since 1036 and came to the Kastlan of Saint-Prex in 1234 .

With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Crans-près-Céligny came under the administration of the Nyon Bailiwick . Bern raised the place to a rule in 1542, which had also had high jurisdiction since 1663. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Crans-près-Céligny belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic , which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Nyon district.
