history

Aerial photo (1959)

The first documentary mention of the place took place in 910 under the names Pirrhois and Prihoiam . Later, the names villa Petreio (955), villa Petroio (1013) appeared in the 11th century for the first time Perroy, then Perruërs and in 1867 Perroi . The monks who had lived in Perroy since the middle of the 10th century founded a Benedictine priory in Perroy at the beginning of the 12th century , which was subordinate to the Abbey of Saint-Philibert in Tournus ( France ). The priory was secularized with the introduction of the Reformation and the monastery property was sold by 1548 at the latest.

With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Perroy came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Morges . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Rolle district.

Attractions

The reformed parish church of Sainte-Marie once served as a priory church. The choir with a ribbed vault has been preserved from the medieval building. The nave was redesigned in 1828. Perroy Castle, on the eastern edge of the village, was built in the 16th and 17th centuries; its orangery dates from the 18th century. In the densely built-up old town center, there are some typical town and wine-growing houses from the 17th to 19th centuries.
