Olivier Anken (born February 10, 1957 in Morges ) is a former Swiss ice hockey goalkeeper who spent his entire professional career in the Swiss National League A at EHC Biel .

Career

Olivier Anken began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth of Forward Morges HC , for whom he was already between the posts as a 14-year-old and was active until 1976. The goalkeeper then switched to EHC Biel on a trial basis before completing the recruiting school , for whose professional team he played exclusively for the following 18 years. With Biel, the 1988 Olympian was champion three times ( 1977/78 , 1980/81 and 1982/83 ).

In the 1981/82 season , the EHC Biel was with Anken in the gate an encounter before the end of the main round in the relegation zone and met in the decider on SC Bern . After Bern's attacker Bruno Wittwer was illegally stopped by Biel's defender Daniel Dubuis in a so-called “breakaway” situation in the last third , referee René Fasel imposed a penalty for SC Bern. Anken, however, parried Wittwer's shot and then Serge Martel shot the Bieler within a short time to a 3-2 win over SC Bern and the league. In total, Anken played 627 games in the top Swiss division for the first division club. Anken ended his active career following the 1993/94 season .

Regardless of his size, which is unusually small for a goalkeeper, so that Anken did not have the ideal physical conditions for his position, no goalkeeper had managed to take on a powerful and dominant role in the top Swiss league for such a long period of time. To improve his responsiveness, he learned to play squash . Anken mainly practiced both the butterfly and the stand-up style during his career. In contrast to numerous players in the goalkeeping position, Anken was by no means considered idiosyncratic. On and off the ice, he was always a calm and reserved personality, whose achievements on the ice were temporarily underestimated.

After his career end, the voters of the vote him Bernese Jura -Gemeinde Péry in the council , but the native of Vaud refused to accept the office.

With the opening of the new Tissot Arena in Biel , Anken's jersey was hung under the stadium roof in honor of his services to EHC Biel. This means that his player number 30 at that time is no longer assigned.

International

For Switzerland , Anken took part in the B world championships in 1981 , 1985 and 1990 and the A world championship in 1987 . He was also in the Swiss squad for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . Overall, the goalkeeper, who initially often acted in the role of backup goalkeeper in the national team, stood between the posts in 153 international matches for the Swiss.
