Hans-Jürgen Hufeisen (born February 10, 1954 in Anrath ) is a German recorder player and composer .

Life

Horseshoe was born in a hotel room. His mother, a traveling salesman from the Allgäu, had kept the pregnancy a secret. She left her son two days after the birth; the hotelier found the baby under a blanket. On February 12, 1954, the youth welfare office took care of the foundling and took him to a Catholic nursery in Lobberich. On Boxing Day he was evangelically baptized in the name of Hans-Jürgen; the mother had instructed a midwife to do this before she left. Horseshoe came to a foster mother and in 1957 in the Protestant children's home Haus Sonneck von Neukirchen-Vluyn . There an educator discovered Horseshoe's musical talent, taught him Christian evening songs and how to play the recorder. Horseshoe won prizes in regional competitions organized by “Jugend musiziert”; from 1972 to 1977 he studied recorder , music education and composition at the Folkwang Music Academy in Essen . During this time he was a speaker at the International Children's and Young People's Book Fair in Duisburg from 1974 to 1978, and from 1975 to 1977 as a lecturer at the Folkwang Music Academy. From 1977 to 1991 he worked as a state consultant for musical and cultural education at the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . During this time he passed his concert exam at the Karlsruhe University of Music with Gerhard Braun . Since 1991 he has been working as a freelance composer, producer and musician. Today the artist lives in Zurich .

His interpretations and compositions for the recorder, in which he likes to deal with existing church music , are mostly meditative and melodic. In his solo pieces and concert works, he is primarily based on classical models such as Johann Sebastian Bach or on Baroque artists . In addition, he is also inspired by folk songs and music from other cultures. In addition to a wide variety of recorders, he also uses the piano , drums , string instruments and other instruments. Horseshoe's works develop from the essence of Christian culture. His basic attitude leads him to a tolerant attitude. "All religions have a common goal: They want peace and love in the world." That is why he performs with musicians who belong to other religions and cultures.

Since 1983 he has created major stage works (music, choreography and texts) for the German Evangelical Church Congress, among others . He worked with theologians Jörg Zink (The Creation, The Song of the Four Elements), Walter J. Hollenweger from Switzerland (Bonhoeffer Requiem, Easter Dance of Women), Anselm Grün (Easter Joy, Divine Child), John O'Donohue from Ireland (Anam Cara), Zephania Kameeta from Namibia (Seasons of the Heart - A Dialogue with Africa), Ulrich Schaffer (The Journey into Your Own Heart), Margot Käßmann (Creation Time 2007 / Mothers of the Bible - Children of the Bible 2010 / The Wise Men 2011 / Sehnsucht nach Leben 2012, Message from the Angels 2012), Frieder Gadesmann , Küsse, süsser als Wein (2012) and Christoph Sigrist as librettist for Zwingli Files - A Mystery Play 2016 in Zurich (directed by Volker Hesse ). Another important work was performed in 1999 in Valais / Switzerland: "The bright morning star", a stage work on the apocalypse.

In addition to the major stage works, Hufeisen composed a variety of songs that can be sung in church services and devotions. The theologian Jörg Zink wrote the texts. “We would like to encourage everyone who see themselves as Christians or who would like to, to take up what we offer here”, they write in the foreword to the book “How we can celebrate”. In it they also encourage liturgical and meditative dances and thus take up old Christian practice according to their own statements. "When we consider how poor our worship services are in terms of movements and gestures, we are no longer surprised when they are simply avoided by many as boring and meaningless."

According to Hufeisen, the dramatic circumstances of his birth contributed to his enormous musical creativity. “This start forever brought a dark side to my life. I can't take that off. I have to take that around with me and keep it in me. " The music got him off "out of this darkness out carried into the light." Therefore told he journalist Uwe Birnstein his life story, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, entitled "The incredible life of the flute player Hans-Jürgen Horseshoe" in Verlag Herder appeared and attracted a lot of media attention. The life-long difficult relationship with his mother, who died in 2007, also became his inspiration. “I wrote a lot of pieces of music, and today I know that it always had something to do with this mother, it always had something to do with birth and life. The music helps me to express the soul world in me - if I bring it into an external form, namely in sound, then it is something like a liberation. "

Hufeisen has two children from his first marriage: Karoline (* 1980) and Simon (* 1982).

student

Hans-Jürgen Hufeisen also taught the recorder. His students include Helge Burggrabe and Matthias Beck .
