Christoph Sigrist (* 1963 in Zurich ) is a Swiss Reformed pastor , deaconry scholar and author.

Life

Pastoral care and diakonia

Christoph Sigrist studied Protestant theology in Zurich, Tübingen and Berlin, which he graduated in 1987. After his ordination in 1988 he was pastor from 1989 to 1995 in the Evangelical Reformed parish of Stein SG and at the same time wrote his dissertation on “Diakonia, ethics and diaconal grassroots groups in churches”. In 1995 he was promoted to Dr. theol. doctorate and until 2002 was pastor at the city church St. Laurenzen in St. Gallen , where he initiated the city ​​church project "Open Church St. Leonhard".

In 2002 he took over a position for community diakonia in the church services of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Zurich, which he held until 2008. Since 2003 he has been a part-time pastor at the Grossmünster in Zurich. From 1990 to 2014 he was also an army chaplain in the Swiss Army.

Scientific activity

In addition to his pastoral office, Christoph Sigrist has been teaching and researching diaconal science at the theological faculty of the University of Bern since 2009 , after having been teaching there since 1999. In 2014 he completed his habilitation with a research project on "Church Diakonie Raum - Investigations into the diaconal use of church rooms". From 2014 Sigrist was a private lecturer, and since August 2018 he has been adjunct professor for diaconal science at the Bern Faculty.

His main research interests lie in the areas of theological forms of justification for helping action, basic diaconal research and the methodological issues of the subject, in urban diakonia, city churches and tourism as well as the diaconal use of church spaces.

Memberships and volunteer work

Christoph Sigrist is a member of several diaconal foundations and supra-congregational bodies, such as the Board of Trustees of the Aid Organization of the Evangelical Churches in Switzerland (HEKS), the Diakoniewerk Neumünster - Swiss Nursing School or the Board of Trustees of the Evangelical Society of Zurich . He is President of the Society for Minorities in Switzerland and of the Zurich Forum of Religions (ZFR) since 2012. He is also President of the Zurich Donation Parliament and a member of the Federal Migration Commission EKM for the 2020–2023 term of office.

From July 2016 to December 2019 he was the ambassador of the Protestant Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich to commemorate “500 years of the Reformation”.

He supports the corporate responsibility initiative .

Private

Christoph Sigrist is married and has two sons. He is also a member of the Hottingen guild .
