Johann Heinrich Mücke
Johann Heinrich Mücke (born February 10, 1735 in Wittenberg , † March 11, 1799 in Grimma ) was a German educator and philologist. Mücke was the principal of the Princely School in Grimma .
Life
Johann Heinrich was born as the son of the former city judge and later city judge Johann Georg Mücke. In Wittenberg he had also received his first training from private teachers and at the local council school. It soon became clear that Mücke should complete a degree. For this purpose he was enrolled on October 16, 1745 at the university in his hometown . From November 4, 1749 to September 14, 1753, he attended the St. Augustin State School in Grimma , which was under the direction of Rector Heinrich August Schumacher (1685–1760). After holding a Greek farewell speech in Grimma, he returned to Wittenberg. Here he wanted to complete theological studies. The prerequisite for this, however, was a basic philosophy degree. At that time, Johann Georg Walther taught ethics in Wittenberg , history was taught by Johann Daniel Ritter , Greek language and literature by Georg Wilhelm Kirchmaier , philosophy taught by Karl Gottlob Sperbach , logic by Ernst Christian Schröder and Karl Daniel Freyberg , mathematics by Georg Friedrich Baermann and Johann Daniel Titius and Johann Friedrich Weidler , physics Georg Matthias Bose , rhetoric Christian Crusius , he learned French from David Erdmann Meisler (1725–1784) and nature and international law from Johann Friedrich Hiller .
Two treatises of philological content by him come from that period. In addition, Karl Gottlob Hofmann , Joachim Samuel Weickmann , Christian Siegmund Georgi , Ernst Friedrich Wernsdorf , Friedrich Wilhelm Jahr and Christian Friedrich Schmidt taught at the theological faculty . Through the recommendation of Johann August Ernesti , he became tutor to Hofrat Schmiedel in Leipzig in 1758. On April 18, 1759, he enrolled at the University of Leipzig and received his doctorate there on February 21, 1760 as a Master of Philosophy. After moving to the University of Göttingen for another two years , he returned to Leipzig in 1763. Here he was accepted into Ernesti's house, gave a celebratory speech in the Paulinerkirche in Leipzig in 1765 and completed his habilitation in 1766 at the Leipzig University. In the same year he was noticed by the responsible Saxon education authorities, so that in 1767 he was given a position at the electoral state school St. Augustin in Grimma , where he worked alongside Johann Tobias Krebs as vice-principal. In 1782 he succeeded Krebs as rector of the institution. Mücke was described by his students as a strict trainer who, however, was able to meet high training expectations precisely because of this.
For example, the high school professor in Groß-Glogau went through Gottfried Günther Röller (1783–1869), Ernst Florens Friedrich Chladni , Karl von Gersdorff , Gottlob August Baumgarten-Crusius , Detlev Karl Wilhelm Baumgarten-Crusius (1786–1845), Johann Adam Gottlieb Kind (1747–1826), Karl Gottlob Kühn , Siegfried August Mahlmann , Johann Gottfried Seume , Gottlob Leberecht Schulze , Karl Gottlob Kühn, Christian Gottfried Körner and Gustav Friedrich Dinter completed his training. Mücke also founded a German reading library for the Grimmens students with German and French works.
After his death, some students intended to erect a memorial to him, but this failed because of the resistance of the people of Grimma. Nevertheless, a deeply moving farewell poem by his alumni has survived.
His son Gottlieb Heinrich Mücke (1792-1853) became a theologian in Nerchau and Fremdiswalde. A painting depicting him, measuring 59 × 80 centimeters, is in the archive of the grammar school in Grimma.
