Thank God August Baumgarten-Crusius
Gottlob August Baumgarten-Crusius (born April 1, 1752 in Penig as Gottlob August Baumgarten , † December 15, 1816 in Merseburg ) was a German theologian and councilor and consistorial councilor in Merseburg.
Life
After the death of his father, a primary school teacher, in 1759, his mother married the second pastor Christoph Crusius (1689-1770), who later added his family name to his in honor of Gottlob August Baumgarten-Crusius. He attended the Princely School in Grimma and began studying theology at the University of Leipzig in 1769 , especially with Christian August Crusius and Johann August Ernesti .
After the death of his stepfather, he first had to make a living as a family and worked as a print proofreader and private tutor. In 1774 he was given a patronage parish in Kleinzschocher and Großmiltitz and then married. From this marriage there were twelve children, including the philologist Karl Wilhelm Baumgarten-Crusius and the theologian Ludwig Friedrich Otto Baumgarten-Crusius . After his exam he was appointed deacon at the Dresden Kreuzkirche in 1780 . In 1787 he was appointed monastery superindendent, consistorial assessor and inspector of the Merseburg grammar school. In 1789 Baumgarten-Crusius received his doctorate in theology. In 1816 he was appointed government and consistorial councilor in Merseburg and a member of the government in Magdeburg . Baumgarten-Crusius died at the end of 1816 after a brief illness.
