Flag and coat of arms of the canton and the city of Lucerne
The flag of the canton of Lucerne and the city of Lucerne is divided by white and blue, but the coat of arms is divided by blue and white. The stand colors are white and blue.
The Lucerne banner, divided by blue and white, is older than the coat of arms. The oldest surviving flag consists of a fragmentary, rectangular piece of cloth made of white and blue silk, which is said to have been used in the battle of Sempach in 1386. The (different) coat of arms is traced back to the seal of the Lucerne mayor Petermann von Gundoldingen .
Blazon
The official blazon of the coat of arms reads: Split of blue and silver.
Coat of arms of the city of Lucerne
In order to distinguish the city coat of arms from the canton coat of arms, the city coat of arms has a wall crown. Shield holders are two yellow lions.
