Karl Gottlob Kühn (also: Carl Gottlob Kühn ; born July 12, 1754 in Spergau near Merseburg , † June 19, 1840 in Leipzig ) was a German physician and medical historian.

Life

After attending school in Merseburg and Grimma , Kühn studied classical philology and medicine at the University of Leipzig . In Leipzig he became a full professor of medicine in 1801 and in 1812 the first holder of the newly created chair for surgery.

Kühn was full professor of physiology and pathology from 1820 to 1840 . He was rector of the University of Leipzig from 1805 to 1806, 1809 to 1810 and from 1813 to 1814 . In 1830 he was elected a foreign member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . In 1833 he became an honorary citizen of the city of Leipzig.

Kühn's main scientific merits are in the area of ​​ancient medical history. Particularly noteworthy is his work as editor and translator of the works of Galen of Pergamon. From 1821 to 1833 he edited this for the last time and in full (Opera omnia).
