Wilhelm Rieder
Wilhelm Rieder (born May 12, 1893 at Gut Schaaken ( Waldeck ); † August 8, 1984 in Bremen ) was a German surgeon and university professor.
Life
Rieder studied medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . He was a member of the Corps Rhenania Würzburg (1914) and the Corps Bremensia (1919). After graduating as Dr. med. In 1920 he began his surgical training at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf . Habilitated since 1924 , he became associate professor in 1930 . During the National Socialist era , on November 11, 1933, he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler . Contrary to all academic customs, the Reich Minister of Culture Bernhard Rust placed him on the important chair of the University of Leipzig in 1937 . Josef Hohlbaum , who later became a full professor in Prague, then set up free practice . From 1937 to 1945 Rieder was an advisory surgeon for the Wehrmacht . From 1952 to 1961 he was the chief physician of the surgical clinic at the Bremen City Hospital . As a pioneer of sympathetic surgery , he was elected to the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina in 1952. In 1953, 1957 and 1963 he headed the 71st, 79th and 91st meetings of the Association of Northwest German Surgeons . He was married to Anne-Sabine geb. Wachsmuth, a sister of Werner Wachsmuth . She gave him three children.
