Here he attended the theological lectures of Johann Deutschmann , Philipp Ludwig Hanneken , Valentin Ernst Löscher , Gottlieb Wernsdorf the Elder and Johann Georg Neumann . However, in order to have the necessary theological tools, Schumacher had to attend lectures at the philosophical one. To this end, he frequented the statements by Johann Christoph Wichmannshausen , Christian Röhrensee , Johann Baptist Röschel , Georg Friedrich Schröer and Konrad Samuel Schurzfleisch, among others . With the latter, he had found accommodation in the household and was able to use its extensive library.

Schumacher went to Dresden after his studies in Wittenberg , where he became tutor to the sons of archivist Johann Friedrich Reinhard. In 1710 he became vice principal of the electoral state school in Grimma and on April 30, 1711 in Wittenberg acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. On August 26, 1736, he replaced Georg Ermel , the rector of the educational institution in Grimma, who was in poor health .

As the long-time rector of the Princely School Grimma, Schumacher has earned numerous services as a Saxon educator in education and Saxon historiography. These include: Johann Rudolf Kiesling , Johann Gottfried Hermann , Johann Andreas Cramer , Friedrich Gottlieb Barth , Christian Friedrich Bauer , Christian Gottlieb Kluge the Elder , Johann Heinrich Meier , Johann Gottlieb Stör (1705–1763), Johann Christian Hedler (1701 –1754), Johann Joachim Gottlob am Ende , Traugott Thomasius (1709–1775), Johann Gottfried Brendel , Johann August von Ponickau , Christoph Jeremias Rost , Urban Gottlob Thorschmied (1722–1774), Heinrich Gottlieb von Lindenau , Gottfried Gerhard Stöckhardt (1721 –1788), Christian Lebrecht Albanus (1729–1783), Christian August Kluge (1731–1767), Josias Ludwig Ernst Püttmann and Johann Friedrich Rehkopf (1733–1789). In 1758 Schumacher retired and was replaced by Friedrich Immanuel Schwarz as rector.

From his marriage to Johanna Catharina Teutscher († 1742) from Leipzig on June 19, 1713, he had nine children. The son Heinrich August Schumacher (born February 20, 1715 in Grimma, † February 20, 1753 in Seelitz) is known of these and was a pastor in Authausen and Seelitz . Of the daughters, Christiana Charlotte Schumacher married the cantor and teacher of the Grimma M. Johann Siegmund Opitz state school in 1737. The daughters Sophie Amalie Schumacher, Eleonore Friedericke Schuhmacher and Henriette Marie Schumacher as well as the son Christian Henrich Schumacher are also known.
