Manfred Wagner (born August 31, 1938 in Munich ; † February 10, 2015 there ) was a German soccer player who played for TSV 1860 Munich from 1958 to 1971 . With the lions he won the DFB Cup and the German football championship . With a total of 364 competitive appearances, he is the record player in TSV 1860.

career

Before the Bundesliga, until 1963

In 1953 Wagner switched from the youth of the Sendlinger club FC Neuhofen to TSV 1860, where he was to stay until the end of his career. In the season 1958/59 he made his debut on October 5, 1958 in the away game against VfR Mannheim as a right winger in the league team of 1860 Munich in the Oberliga Süd . The game was lost with 1: 4 goals for the Lions and the 20-year-old was used by coach Hans Hipp in a total of twelve games. From the 1959/60 round he belonged to the extended circle of the regular cast alongside Johann Auernhammer , Alfred Heiß , Rudolf Kölbl and Alfons Stemmer . Bundesliga, 1963 to 1970

Wagner played all 30 round games in the first season of the Bundesliga 1963/64 , when Munich took seventh place in the table in 1860 and won the DFB Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt with 2-0 goals in Stuttgart on June 13, 1964 . Wagner kept Eintracht left winger Lothar Schämer in check in the cup final . In the second Bundesliga season, the six-man improved to fourth place, but triumphed even better in the competition for the European Cup Winners' Cup . After three dramatic games, they switched off AC Turin in the semifinals and moved into the final on May 19, 1965 at Wembley Stadium against West Ham United . The team of manager Ron Greenwood prevailed in front of 97,974 spectators with 2-0 goals. Wagner fought the "Hammers" winger John Sissons .

In 1966 , the year of the soccer world championship , coach Max Merkel and his team won the German championship . Before Borussia Dortmund and local rivals Bayern Munich, Munich won the title in 1860. Wagner defended in 26 games for the blues . The defending champion came in 1860 behind the new champions Eintracht Braunschweig in 1967 - Max Merkel was dismissed on December 10, 1966 - and was eliminated in the European Cup against Real Madrid - with defender Wagner. Then the sporting high-altitude flight of the Sechzger was over. About the places twelve (1968) and ten (1969) - Wagner played 31 and 33 games respectively - led the way to relegation in the season 1969/70 . End of career, 1971

Manfred Wagner joined the Regionalliga Süd in 1970/71 in 1860 . With coach Hans Tilkowski , the Sechzger took fourth place and the 32-year-old Wagner completed 31 games, mostly as a libero. He ended his career with the game on May 19, 1971 against FC 08 Villingen in the stadium on Grünwalder Strasse . He later worked for a long time as the coordinator of the traditional team of TSV 1860.

In January 2015 Wagner suffered a heart attack while cross-country skiing . After heart surgery, he was in an artificial coma until he passed away on February 10th.
