Hugo von Fosses
Hugo von Fosses (* around 1093 in Fosses-la-Ville , † February 10, 1164 in Prémontré ) was the successor of Norbert von Xanten as abbot of the Prémontré Abbey , the mother monastery of the Premonstratensians .
Vita
He was probably brought up in Fosses and was chaplain to Bishop Burchard of Cambrai (1115–1131). Louis VI. wanted to make him Bishop of Chartres , which he refused. In 1119 he joined Norbert and became abbot in 1125, and in 1134 abbot general of the order. He turned out to be a good organizer; 120 monasteries were founded during his lifetime. After his death he was first buried in the abbey church, after which the bones were transferred to the cathedral of Laon. Due to the effects of the First World War, his bones came to the Bois-Seigneur-Isaac monastery in Belgium after several intermediate stops . Today they are in San Norberto in Rome (Generalate of the Premonstratensian Order).
Hugo von Fosses was beatified by the Catholic Church , his attributes are: church model, abbot and chalice.
