Poli Plamenowa Genowa ( Bulgarian Поли Пламенова Генова ; born February 10, 1987 in Sofia , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian singer , presenter and actress . She represented her country Bulgaria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf with the song Na Inat ( German : In spite of it ). At the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm , Genowa again represented her country with the song If Love Was a Crime , reaching fourth place in the final.

Career

ESC 2016 appearance

Poli Genova, who sang when she was four, was a member of the children's singing group Bon-Bon from 1995 , with which she made her first appearances on Bulgarian television. After studying at the music school Ljubomir Pipkow with a focus on clarinet , she studied film directing . As a singer, she was active in the UNICEF project The Magnificent Six and took part in the Bulgarian dance show Dancing Stars . As part of the Melody trio , she took part in the national preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and 2006.

Eurovision Song Contest 2011

In 2011 she represented Bulgaria as a soloist with the title Na inat (German: in spite of it ), but could not qualify for the final in the second semifinals and ended up barely in 12th place, two places behind a qualification.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015

On November 21, 2015, she moderated the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Sofia .

Eurovision Song Contest 2016

After the Bulgarian broadcaster BNT had confirmed a return after three years at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in December 2015, it was announced on February 17, 2016 that Poli Genova would again represent Bulgaria and the song would be selected internally. The song If Love Was a Crime was released on March 21, 2016. In the second semi-final on May 12, she qualified for the final, in which she was fourth with 307 points. It was the first time since 2007 that Bulgaria qualified for the final and only the second time ever. In addition, she had the best result for Bulgaria up to that point.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016

On November 3, 2016 it was announced that Poli Genowa, along with 2015 winner Destiny Chukunyere, will be part of the Interval Act at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 .
