Émile-Louis-Fortuné Pessard (born May 29, 1843 in Paris , † February 10, 1917 ibid) was a French composer .

Life

Émile Pessard was one of the first students of the music school founded by Louis Niedermeyer in Paris. There he had lessons in harmony with Pierre-Louis Dietsch , organ lessons with Clément Loret and composition lessons with Niedermeyer. He then studied at the Paris Conservatory with François Bazin and Michele Carafa . In 1866 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata Dalila , which was also performed at the Paris Opera the following year .

After the stay in Rome associated with the award, Pessard settled in Paris, where he worked as a successful opera composer. In addition, he composed numerous songs and choral works, chamber music, orchestral works and church music.

In addition, Pessard was inspector for singing lessons in the city schools of Paris and since 1881 professor of harmony at the Conservatory. Here he taught a. a. Maurice Ravel , Gustave Charpentier and Jacques Ibert .
