After the family moved to Bern in the year he was born, Gottlob Schrenk grew up there and came to Marburg in 1887 and to Barmen in 1891 ; There he graduated from high school in 1897 and then completed a traineeship in agriculture near Schaffhausen .

He enrolled at the University of Erlangen and began studying theology, which he continued at the University of Tübingen , the University of Halle , the University of Bonn and the University of Geneva . At the University of Tübingen he was particularly influenced by Adolf Schlatter .

Professional background

After completing his studies, he was initially vicar in Bern, and then worked for several years as an assistant preacher in Nümbrecht , Asbach in the Rhineland , Barmen and Koblenz before he became pastor in Heiligenhaus near Düsseldorf in 1908 .
