Anna of Austria (1573–1598)
Anna of Austria (born August 16, 1573 in Graz , † February 10, 1598 in Warsaw ) from the house of the Habsburgs was an Archduchess of Austria and by marriage Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of Lithuania ; since 1592 also Queen of Sweden .
Life
Anna was the eldest daughter of Archduke Karl II of Austria-Styria (1540–1590) from his marriage to Maria Anna (1551–1608), daughter of the Bavarian Duke Albrecht V.
On May 31, 1592 Anna of Austria-Styria married the Polish and later Swedish King Sigismund III in Krakow . Wasa (1566–1632), only son of King John III. of Sweden and his first wife Katharina , sister of the Polish king Sigismund II August .
Anna died as a result of the birth of her last child and was buried in the Wawel Cathedral in Krakow . According to the inscription on her coffin, she should have been born in 1567, four years before her parents got married. After the death of his wife, Sigismund entered into a new marriage with Anna's sister Konstanze .
