Georg Kliesing (born February 10, 1911 in Honnef , † July 19, 1992 in Bad Honnef) was a German CDU politician .

Life and work

Georg Kliesing was born as the son of a primary school teacher in Honnef, he was of the Roman Catholic faith. After graduating from high school in 1928, he studied philosophy, law, history and German at the University of Bonn . At the age of 21 he received his doctorate in philosophy from Max Braubach , making him the youngest doctor in the German Reich. In 1933 he passed the trainee examination and in 1936 the assessor examination. Then he was a study assessor in Bonn until the beginning of the war.

In 1939 Kliesing was drafted into the Wehrmacht. He experienced the Polish and French campaigns. He was wounded in Russia in 1941. In 1944 he completed an officer training course. Although taken prisoner by the Americans, he and his comrades were handed over to the Soviet troops. He returned to the Rhineland from captivity in the summer of 1949 and resumed his work as a high school teacher.

Political party

From 1930 Kliesing was a member of the Windthorstbund , later of the Center Party . In the election campaigns of 1932 he appeared as a speaker in his home region and in the Eifel. In 1949 he joined the CDU. From 1951 to 1961 he was chairman of the CDU city association Bad Honnef and from 1960 to 1966 of the CDU district association for the Siegkreis . In addition, Kliesing belonged to the state board of the JU - Rhineland and from 1958 on the CDU state board of North Rhine-Westphalia and was - temporarily as chairman - a member of the CDU federal committee for defense issues.

MP

Kliesing was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1976. He first represented the constituency Siegkreis , in 1965 the constituency Siegkreis I - Bonn-Land and from 1969 the constituency Rhein-Sieg-Kreis I in parliament.

Kliesing was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Assembly of the Western European Union , where he led the Christian Democrats from 1968 to 1970. In the WEU Assembly he was also chairman of the Defense Committee from 1962 to 1966. In the North Atlantic Assembly (" NATO Parliament") Kliesing was President 1963/64 and Vice President 1959–1962 and 1964–1966. Until the end of the 1950s, Kliesing was also a member of the district council in the Siegkreis.
