Gottfried Arnold (born February 10, 1933 in Düsseldorf ; † December 28, 2015 ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Gottfried Arnold was the son of the politician and North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Karl Arnold . After graduating from elementary school, attending secondary school in Biberach an der Riss and graduating from high school in 1953 at the state Görres-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf, he studied law and political science at the universities of Cologne and Munich . He passed the first state examination in law in 1956 , was then a trainee lawyer and went on several study trips. After receiving the title of Doctor of Laws from State Chancellor Karl August von Hardenberg in 1959 with the work jur. He finished his legal clerkship in 1960 with the second state examination in law.

Arnold worked for a press publisher in the Ruhr area and then worked as a lawyer in Düsseldorf .

He was initially a partner, from 1962 publisher, from 1978 to 2012 chairman of the supervisory board of the Rheinische Post and until recently honorary chairman of the supervisory board of the Rheinische Post Mediengruppe .

As a devout Christian, he became a member of the Catholic student association Rhenania-Düsseldorf in the KV while studying . With his wife Irene he had two sons and a daughter.

Political party

Arnold was a member of the CDU and from 1970 to 1981 chairman of the CDU district association in Düsseldorf.

MP

Gottfried Arnold was a member of the German Bundestag from 1961 to 1983 . In Parliament he represented the constituency Dusseldorf I .

Awards

In 2008 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit and in 2003 the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
