Sergio Amidei

Sergio Amidei (born October 30, 1904 in Trieste , † April 14, 1981 in Rome ) was an Italian screenwriter .

Life

Amidei already worked as a young man in various assistant functions in the film industry; the first film based on his script was made in 1938. After initially rather insignificant melodramas, he became one of the leading exponents of cinematic neorealism from 1944, when he wrote the screenplay for “Rome, Open City” . After its short bloom, less significant work followed for years before Amidei finished his career with the scripts for “The Most Beautiful Soirée of My Life” and “The Flight to Varennes” and thus returned to the successes of the immediate post-war period.
