Elizabeth Reinhardt

Elizabeth Reinhardt (born March 21, 1909 in Lima (Ohio) as Miriam Elizabeth Neely , † January 21, 1954 in Los Angeles ) was an American writer and screenwriter who was nominated for an Oscar in 1945 .

Life

Elizabeth Reinhardt was born Elizabeth Neely in the state of Ohio in the American Midwest in 1909 . Her parents were Milton L. Neely (1881-1958) and Vera Neely (1882-1923). The young woman first drew attention to herself in 1934 when she worked on the script of William C. McGann's film La buenaventura . Together with Hilda Stone, she provided the template for the script for the comedy film Everybody's Baby in 1939. This was followed by the films Gold Rush Maisie , Maisie Was a Lady and Maisie Gets Her Man from 1940 to 1942 , for which she wrote the script and the original story, respectively. Reinhardt and Samuel Hoffenstein wrote the original script for Frank Borzage's 1943 romantic comedy Die Stubenfee with Deanna Durbin and Franchot Tone .

In 1945 , Elizabeth Reinhardt, along with Jay Dratler and Samuel Hoffenstein, received an Oscar nomination in the “Best Adapted Screenplay” category for the film noir Laura by Otto Preminger with Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews in the leading roles. However, the Oscar went to Frank Butler and Frank Cavett and the drama The Road to Happiness .

For Walter Lang's 1946 film drama Sentimental Journey , Reinhardt again worked with Samuel Hoffenstein on the script. The main roles were played by John Payne and Maureen O'Hara . In the same year, Ernst Lubitsch's romance Cluny Brown was born on the loose with Charles Boyer and Jennifer Jones , for which Reinhardt again wrote the script together with Hoffenstein. After working on the screenplay of the musical film Hit Parade of 1951 in 1950 , she then worked on two episodes of a television series, wrote additional dialogues for the Western The Tall Texan with Lloyd Bridges and Lee J. Cobb in 1953 and subsequently provided the screenplay for an episode of the television series Footlights Theater .

Elizabeth Reinhardt died two months before her 45th birthday and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery Crawfordsville, Montgomery , Indiana . She left 37 works in 108 publications in five languages.
