Ian Dalrymple

Ian Dalrymple (born August 26, 1903 in Johannesburg , South Africa , † September 28, 1989 in London ) was a British film producer , screenwriter , film editor and film director .

Life

Born in South Africa, Dalrymple came to England at a young age and joined the film industry as an editor after studying at Cambridge . From 1932 he wrote screenplays both under sole responsibility and as a co-author. From 1941 he also worked as a film producer; in 1939 he had already taken over the management of the GPO Film Unit , which has become known for its documentaries . For his work on the screenplay of The novel of a flower girl , Dalrymple received the Oscar for best adapted screenplay in 1939 , at the same time he was nominated for the same price for his work on the screenplay for The Citadel . For several years he was chairman of the British Film Academy .
