life and career

Tony Huston is the eldest son of director John Huston and fourth wife Enrica Soma, with whom he was married from 1950 until her death in a car accident in 1969. He was born in Malibu but grew up in large part on his father's country estate in Ireland . Tony's grandfather (who died nine days before his birth) Walter Huston , his younger sister Anjelica Huston and his younger half-brother Danny Huston were or are active as actors. Tony Huston began his film career as an actor and took on a supporting role in 1962 in the film The Dead List , directed by his father.

In the 1960s, Tony Huston starred in some cheaply produced science fiction films by director Larry Buchanan , but gained his first experience as a screenwriter and assistant director behind the camera as a minor . He co-wrote a number of scripts, including for Buchanan. In 1971 Tony Huston directed the rocker film Outlaw Riders at the age of 20, but the less-noticed flick would remain his only directorial work. In 1979 he worked as assistant director to his father John for the film The Wisdom of Blood , and in 1987 he worked again for Die Toten . For this last film by his father, based on the short story The Dead by James Joyce , he wrote the script for the critically acclaimed film. At the Academy Awards in 1988 he was therefore nominated for the Oscar in the category Best Adapted Screenplay , and he received further nominations for this screenplay at the Independent Spirit Awards in 1988 and the New York Film Critics Circle Awards .

Tony Huston was unable to realize his own planned film projects, including the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr . He has since retired from the film business and now works as a lawyer and breeder of falcons . He appeared as an interviewee in several documentaries about his father. Tony Huston has three children and was married from 1978 to 1987 to the aristocratic British Margot Lavinia Cholmondeley, sister of Marquess David Cholmondeley . From this marriage he has the son Jack Huston, born in 1982 .
