Giovanni Cini
Giovanni Cini (* between 1490 and 1495 in Siena , † 1565 in Cracow ) was an architect , sculptor and stonemason of the Renaissance . Cini belonged to the third generation of Italian Renaissance artists who worked at the Kraków royal court.
Life
Giovanni Cini was born in Siena between 1490 and 1495 . He came to Krakow in 1519 at the behest of King Sigismund the Elder . Here he entered the workshop of the Florentine artist Bartolomeo Berrecci , where he worked on the Sigmund Chapel in Wawel Cathedral until 1529 . Between 1529 and 1531 he stayed in Siena again. In 1531 he was back in Krakow, where he went into business for himself and, together with other collaborators of Berrecci, Bernardino Zanobi de Gianotis and Filippo da Fiesole , founded an artists' society that campaigned for commissions together. He also continued to work with Berrecci and Giovanni Maria Mosca . From 1531 to 1535 he rebuilt the Płock Cathedral and then the Vilnius Cathedral in the Renaissance style.
