Life

Filippo da Fiesole was born in Fiesole around 1500 . He came to Krakow before 1530 at the behest of King Sigismund the Elder . Here he entered the workshop of the Florentine artist Bartolomeo Berrecci , where he worked on the Sigmund Chapel in the Wawel Cathedral until 1531 . In 1531 he went into business for himself and, together with other Berrecci colleagues, Bernardino Zanobi de Gianotis and Giovanni Cini , founded an artists' society that campaigned for commissions together. From 1531 to 1535 he rebuilt the Płock Cathedral and then the Vilnius Cathedral in the Renaissance style.
