Norman Lewis Corwin (born May 3, 1910 in Boston , Massachusetts , † October 18, 2011 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American journalist and author .

Life

Norman Corwin was considered the author of the "Golden Age of Radio" in the United States, as he became famous for his radio plays in the 1930s and 1940s. He gained his first professional experience as a newspaper journalist before moving to New York in 1936. In 1938 he started working for CBS . He wrote screenplays in the 1950s and later worked for television.

Since the 1990s, Norman Corwin has been writing pieces for the radio again and has been a lecturer ("Writer in Residence") at USC . The documentary about his life, A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin , won an Oscar in 2006.

For his 100th birthday, which Corwin celebrated in Los Angeles, the 10-part CD edition "Norman Corwin: Centennial" was released. Norman Corwin died a year later at the age of 101.
