Hui-Ling Wang

Hui-Ling Wang ( Chinese  王蕙玲 ; born February 15, 1964 in Taipei , Republic of China (Taiwan) ) is a Taiwanese screenwriter.

Life

Wang was born in Taipei. There she also attended the Taipei College of Education, where she received a degree in piano. During her studies, she began writing for television and film. Together with Ang Lee and James Schamus , she wrote the script for the critically acclaimed film Eat Drink Man Woman .

This was followed by the screenplay for Tiger and Dragon by Ang Lee, which she wrote with Schamus and Kuo Jung Tsai . The script was based on the fourth part of the five-part novel Kranich und Eisen by writer Wang Dulu . The script earned her her first and only Oscar nomination to date . She was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2001 Academy Awards, along with the aforementioned . The award went to Stephen Gagan for his screenplay for Traffic - the power of the cartel . The film won the Hugo Award in the Best Dramatic Presentation category.

In 2007 she worked again with Schamus. The two wrote the script for the film Danger and Desire together , again for Ang Lee. The two won the award for the best adapted screenplay at the Golden Horse Film Festival .

In 2014 she wrote the screenplay for John Woo's film The Crossing . In 2005 she was also involved in the sequel The Crossing 2 .

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
