Robert E. Thompson
Robert E. Thompson (born November 3, 1924 in Los Angeles , California , † February 11, 2004 in Santa Monica , California) was an American screenwriter and television producer.
Life
Thompson served in Europe and the Pacific during World War II . After the war he studied at Yale University . During this time he wrote various short stories and plays. Further studies took him to Stanford University and he began to work as a journalist. He embarked on a screenwriting career in the mid-1950s, working mainly for various television series. In the 1960s and 1970s he also worked as a producer, including a thousand miles of dust . He and James Poe were nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Adapted Screenplay in 1970 for the screenplay for Only Horses Are Given the grace shot . 1971 followed a nomination for the British Academy Film Award . Most recently, Thompson was involved in a number of television films in the 1970s and 1980s.
Thompson died of pneumonia . He was survived by his wife and a daughter.
