John Dighton

John Gervase Dighton (born August 12, 1909 in London , † 1989 ) was a British screenwriter and writer .

Live and act

John Dighton attended Charterhouse School and then studied at Caius College , Cambridge . Dighton then worked as a journalist for Northcliffe Newspapers before joining the film in 1935.

Initially, in the 1930s and 1940s, Dighton wrote the scripts for a number of low-quality, inexpensive comedies and comedies starring British audience favorites Will Hay and George Formby . After World War II , Dighton was also involved in higher quality films. He achieved particular success with his manuscripts for two comedy classics from Ealing Studios with Alec Guinness : Adel obliged and The man in the white suit . Some of his scripts like The Happiest Days of Your Life and Who Goes There? Dighton also wrote the template.

After his Oscar nomination for the Roman romance A Heart and a Crown , which would mark the breakthrough for Audrey Hepburn , Dighton also seemed interesting to Hollywood. But he only found employment there in 1955, when he was engaged for another Guinness film, the Molnar adaptation The Swan with Grace Kelly in the female lead. At the end of the same decade, John Dighton withdrew into private life. Dighton is said to have died in 1989, an exact date or place of death cannot currently be determined. A death in England can be ruled out, as the death registers there do not show his name.
