Richard Friedenberg

Richard Friedenberg (* in Westchester , New York ) is an American screenwriter, director and producer.

biography

After studying English literature at the University of Michigan and doing academic work at the Sorbonne in Paris , he joined a film company in Boston , where he wrote and designed his first educational films. In 1974 his career began with the script for the film The Life and Times of Grizzly Addams . Three years later he wrote and produced the television series of the same name, which, under the title The Man in the Mountains , was a great success, especially in Germany.

In 1978 he shot for US television The Deerslayer , a literary film adaptation based on the book The Wildslayer by James Fenimore Cooper . In 1979, The Bermuda Triangle , a feature film based on the book of the same name by Charles Berlitz , was his first successful feature film.

In 1981 he wrote the screenplay for the Roger Young film Bitter Harvest with Ron Howard , for which he received his first Emmy Award nomination. His next work was Trage my brother Burde from 1986 with James Garner .

In 1991 he wrote the screenplay for the Joel Schumacher film Decision from Love (with Julia Roberts ). In 1992 Robert Redford chose him as a screenwriter for his film From the Middle A River Gates . Friedenberg stuck to the poetic novel and received an Academy Award nomination.

In 1996 he directed Mr. & Mrs. Loving with Timothy Hutton . In 1997, based on Forrest Carter's novella The Education of Little Tree, the film Indian Summer - The Adventures of the Indian Boy Little Tree , about a little Indian boy who lost his parents during the Depression.

In 2001 he received another Emmy nomination for his film Snow in August with Stephen Rea .
