Scott B. Smith (born July 13, 1965 in Summit , New Jersey ) is an American writer and screenwriter.

Smith first studied at Dartmouth College and Columbia University in New York City and then devoted himself to writing books. In 1993 his first novel A Simple Plan was published . After adapting the material for a script, the film of the same name was made in 1998 under the direction of Sam Raimi .

Smith was nominated for an Oscar in 1999 in the Adapted Screenplay category for his work . In the same year he received the Critics Choice Award from the Broadcast Film Critics Association . Be published in 1995 in Sweden novel En grandson plan (Original: A Simple Plan , dt .: A very simple plan ) was approved by the "Svenska Deckarakademin" (Swedish Crime Academy) with the renowned Swedish Crime Writers' Academy - International Award.

In 2006 he published his second novel, The Ruins , which also became an international bestseller. The film adaptation by the American director Carter Smith premiered on April 2, 2008 in Hollywood.
