Michael Weller (born September 26, 1942 in New York City , New York ) is an American playwright and screenwriter.

Life

Michael Weller, born in New York City in 1942 to the artist Paul Weller, attended Stockbridge School and Windham College. Weller later graduated from Brandeis University in the field of music composition . He then worked as a jazz pianist and then began studying theater at the University of Manchester . Weller works primarily as a playwright and playwright, but occasionally also worked as a scriptwriter. In 1979 he was involved in the film adaptation of the musical Hair , followed two years later by Ragtime . Both films were directed by Miloš Forman and for the latter, Weller was nominated for an Oscar in 1982 in the category Best Adapted Screenplay . This was followed by only a few scripts, at the end of the 1990s he was involved in some episodes of the series Nochmal mit Seele as a producer and screenwriter.

Weller was and is also active in the academic field. He is currently a member of the teaching staff at The New School .
