David Wechsler (1961)

David Wechsler (born December 28, 1918 in Zurich ; † August 11, 1990 there ) was a Swiss writer and screenwriter who won the Oscar for best original story at the 1949 Academy Awards and was also nominated for the Oscar for best adapted screenplay .

Life

David Wechsler, son of of Poland coming film producer Lazar Wechsler , studied after school history at the University of Zurich and placed there in 1945 his doctorate Dr. phil. with a dissertation on the historian Wilhelm Oechsli with the title Wilhelm Oechsli: Historical Conception and Problems of the 19th Century . He then worked for the film distribution and film production company Praesens-Film, which was run by his father, and wrote the templates and scripts for five films between 1945 and 1966 .

He had his greatest success with Richard Schweizer for the co-produced by his father Movie The Drawn (1948) by Fred Zinnemann with Montgomery Clift , Aline MacMahon and Jarmila Novotna in the lead roles : For this won him and Switzerland both the Oscar for best original story and were also nominated for an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.

In addition, Wechsler wrote novels , short stories and a play .

David Wechsler was married and had four children.
